Victoria Falls Private Game ReserveThis 2500 hectare private game reserve is situated only 12kms from Victoria Falls town centre in Zimbabwe
Twelve kilometres away from the spectacular Victoria Falls lies the 2500 hectare Victoria Falls Private Game reserve. This pristine piece of African bush shares a boundary with the 56 000 hectare Zambezi National Park and has the Masuwe river running through its middle.
The entire reserve is fenced and is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino). The reserve is guarded by anti-poaching units to protect the rhino, but they are wild and roam freely. There is a resident pride of lion and also a good population of leopard both of which are seen relatively often. Several elephant have also made this sanctuary their home. Other species of plains game such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, sable and eland are quite plentiful. Like any game park, the seasons are going to make a huge difference. If you visit in the rainy season, it is quite possible to see very little, but if you visit in the dry season animal sightings, on the whole, are good. I highly recommend it for a morning or afternoon drive (the black rhino are ultra-special) but due to the size of the reserve, any longer and it could get repetitive. If you are looking for an extended Safari experience in one of the larger National Parks please click on the button below. The Masuwe River winds its way through the unspoilt bush veld, drawing over 400 species of birds to its banks. Teak forests and open grasslands dominate this landscape upon the Kalahari sand. The Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve is recognised as an Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) for Black Rhino and since implementing a black rhino monitoring and breeding programme the population has flourished to the point that they have been able to supply black rhino to other intensive protection Zones for restocking. Several wildlife activities are conducted on this private game reserve, including game drives, rhino encounters, night drives and bush dinners, all of which are highly recommended, especially for those intent on seeing a rare black rhino. More details on these activities can be found on our Victoria Falls activities page. Tucked away in this natural utopia overlooking a busy waterhole, is the charming Stanley and Livingstone boutique hotel. Completely renovated and modernised in 2018, this Boutique Hotel has not lost any of its Victorian charm, making it a good accommodation choice. Ursula Camp located close by on the same property is smaller and more exclusive, which is ideal for small groups and families wanting to be on their own. Transfers from these lodges to Victoria Falls town are included in the hotel rates and if you just want to do one of the game drives, you will be picked up from your hotel in town at no extra cost. So the reserve is very easy to access.
