The luxury lodge in this gallery is set on Kandahar Island on the Zambezi River. Access to the lodge would be through the Zambezi National Park where the game drives take place, and by boat.

Various settings in the suites invite you to a world of luxury with bright rooms of timber and glass, spacious and even more so with a wide open deck. The view - perfect. In the main area of the lodge is where the few guests can get together for meals and relaxation with socialisation.

As the lodge is set in a safari area, soft as it may be, activities do focus on wildlife in the area. Game drives, river cruises and walking safaris (not included in the rate) bring guests close to nature in the Zambezi National Park. Kandahar Island is great for birding, and this activity is also included.

Our Opinion

Victoria Falls Island Lodge is an intimate and upmarket lodge, very stylish in its build and decor. We can only find praise for this special lodge on this special island, filled with Ilala Palms, Natal Mahoganys and African Ebonys. Sheer luxury and service comes at a price, making it one of the most expensive places to stay around Victoria Falls, but it's worth it for those who have the budget.

Game drives, walks and boats cruises can keep you busy and you are likely to see a good variety of animals and birds, but we consider this a soft safari, so if you after an intense safari experience, we would suggest adding on extra days in somewhere like Hwange or Chobe.

Overall this lodge is great for couples, especially honeymooners, who want to see Victoria Falls, a bit of wildlife and get away from it all and pamper themselves. Although it's still close enough to town to take full advantage of the adventure and activities that Victoria Falls has to offer, we would recommend at least two nights seclusion here with an additional couple of nights in town for those activities.
