Two Tier Rates Structure

What's important to know is that a large portion of Zimbabwean hotels adopt a two tier price structure, one for International travellers and one for SADC (which includes regional and local) travellers. Annoying as this may be for international travellers (whose rates are higher) the reason is that regional countries have weaker economies and less disposable income than travellers from the first world. Also South Africans which make up a large portion of Zimbabwe's tourism sector have a weaker currency (the Rand) so having special SADC rates enables them to travel.

So when assessing Victoria Falls accommodation rates online ensure that you understand which rate you are looking at. On this website if the hotel has a SADC rate it will be displayed, if it doesn't that means the hotel has a single rate for all nationalities.

High and Low Season Accommodation Rates

To complicate matters even further there are also high and low season rates. Although different establishments adopt slightly different dates, as a general rule low season is from January through till June and high season is from July through to December. During the high season or peak season places are pretty full and are therefore able to command a higher price, whereas in the low season good bargains can be had as hotels try to boost the numbers during the leaner months. Within almost every hotel, lodge or B&B there are different classes of room from standard rooms up to presidential suites, each coming with its own price tag.

Rates Per Person Sharing and Single Supplement Rates

Apart from the self-catering lodges, where the accommodation rate is for the whole place regardless of how many people sleep there, accommodation rates are generally detailed as "price per person sharing", this is calculated on 2 people sharing a double or twin room. If you are a single traveller you will still occupy a room which could have slept 2 people so a single supplement rate is applied which will be higher than a sharing rate....sorry!
