Cruise the Zambezi River on a Specialised Safari
While Victoria Falls has an impressive variety of things for you to do, there are some special activities that we think would make a difference to your Victoria Falls experience, and some that not a lot of people do. A few of these are family friendly so you can make your family vacation extra special. Photographic Boat SafariThis cruise on the upper Zambezi River is much more than a scenic activity. You get a professional photographic guide taking you on a kitted boat with specialised equipment. The river above the Victoria Falls has a few channels and islands to explore, and is home to prolific birdlife and a decent amount of wildlife. Photographic boat trips go early in the morning and in the late afternoon. Children 13 and older are welcome.
Photographic boat safari on the Zambezi River Art Safari / WorkshopDon't feel like a photographic boat cruise? How about an art safari? This trip will also take you on the upper Zambezi River, where you will have a chance to capture some wonderful scenery on canvas. What a delightful souvenir to take home with you. Other art workshops can be done at a local rural village, where you get to see how a real Zimbabwean rural community live, and then take an art workshop with one of the local artists. Another fantastic alternative trip is the Art with Elephants, which is done where the Wild Horizons elephants are kept. Make truly magical memories watching these gentle giants interact while you paint them on your canvas. What's even better…you can do these trips with the whole family!
Art at the Wallow with the elephants Flights Over the FallsOk, the scenic helicopter flights are actually pretty popular, but we love the, because they are a special experience. You will obviously take a tour of the Victoria Falls rainforest and see this world wonder from one end to the other. But why not make it more magical by seeing it from above. See how nature has carved the gorge over thousands of years up to where the Zambezi suddenly drops forming the mighty Victoria Falls. Also, this activity can be done by the whole family. Across the border, they also offer micro-light flights for those who want the craft pretty much to themselves. These won't be for the younger adventurers, though - only 10 years and older.
Micro-light flight over the Victoria Falls Siduli HideFor those who don't/won't have the time to go on safari, or want something different from a game drive, this might be the perfect option for you. The hide is located right by the waterhole at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, and gives you an up-close, serene but very exciting look at the inhabitants and other wildlife that visit the waterhole. The elephants can even come right to where you will be sitting (try not to scream please)! Some of the usual visitors include some plains game, as well as some birdlife. There are resident crocodiles at the waterhole, so you may be in for some action.
Taken from the Siduli Hide Rhino Drive / WalkAcross the border but not far away, you can sign up for a walk in the National Park where you get to see white rhino. While a rhino walk isn't something you can do with the little ones, you can take children 12 years and above. If you’re not up for border crossings, a drive in the private game reserve in search of black rhino might be the way to go. At least on the drive, you can take kids as young as 4 years old. Whichever one you choose, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the most special and endangered of the big five animals in the wild.
