The Lookout Cafe & Victoria Falls Bike Tours
2 January 2019 In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2018, The Lookout Cafe on top of the Batoka gorge was completely destroyed in a fire. Wild Horizons issued this statement: "It is with great regret that we advise that The Lookout Cafe was completely devastated by fire in the early hours of the 24th December '18. The Lookout Cafe will be closed for the foreseeable future..." The Highwire activities including the flying fox, zipline, gorge swing, as well as the Canopy Tours, which run from the Lookout have not been affected. However, the newly introduced Bike Tours have been discontinued until further notice, as the equipment was also destroyed in the fire. Wild Horizons also stated: "We will unfortunately not be offering The Lookout lunch exchange for The Elephant Camp and Old Drift Lodge guests until further notice. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen event." Clients that had already pre-booked a Lunch or Dinner at the Lookout Cafe for 2019 "will be accommodated at the Palm restaurant, Ilala Lodge, unless otherwise requested". The cause of the fire is not yet known. There were no injuries or casualties in the incident. UPDATE: 14 January 2019 The Lookout Cafe have announced that they will be re-opening in May of this year. "Dear Friends. Exciting news! The Café will re-open in May 2019. Thank you for your messages of support - it means the world to us! Please follow our exciting reconstruction process via social media. We hope to see you soon! Gail, France and The Lookout Cafe Team" We will keep you posted on their progress.
