Safaris in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has always been considered one of the finest safari destinations in Africa.

Sandwiched between the two magnificent rivers of the Zambezi and Limpopo, Zimbabwe is a land filled with so much diversity - rugged mountains, huge inland lakes, fantastic rivers, lush forests, dry savannahs and exceptional game parks make this country a safari destination not to be missed. It's a country that once you have visited it will capture your heart and leave you longing to return.

The places of major interest to safari travellers are Mana Pools, Lake Kariba (particularly the Matusadona National Park), The Zambezi River, Zambezi National Park, Hwange National Park, Matobo Hills National Park, Gonarezhou National Park, the Eastern Highlands and Great Zimbabwe ruins. Visiting these National Parks individually or as a combination guarantees the most outstanding wildlife experience.

Professional guides in Zimbabwe have gone through intense training before qualifying and therefore the standard of guiding in Zimbabwe has always been and is still considered the best in Africa. Another advantage is that on the whole these parks are not overcrowded with tourists ensuring an authentic and intimate African Safari.

Travel logistics have become a little more challenging, as the once very efficient internal transport network is not what it used to be but this can be overcome with some local knowledge. Harare and Victoria Falls both have international airports with direct flights from Johannesburg daily. Clients generally fly into Harare for safaris starting in the north and Victoria Falls for safaris starting in the west. From there charter flights are generally the best option for accessing Mana Pools, Matusadona and Gonarezhou. While road transfers are preferred for Zambezi national park, Hwange National park, Matobo Hills and Great Zimbabwe. For some of the more remote camps in Hwange, charter flights are also preferred.
