Opening of Borders and a Bridge
Mack Air flies to Victoria Falls Airport
14 May 2021 While much of the travel industry has been quiet, a few changes have been happening which will affect the way we travel. Covid-19 saw the shutting down of borders all over the world, including in Botswana and the southern African region. But things are starting to open up. Botswana's main airports are open. One can now fly into Gaborone and Kasane from Johannesburg thanks to Airlink. Mack Air recently launched daily return Kasane - Victoria Falls flights, perfect for travellers who want to experience some of the best of Botswana and Zimbabwe. While land borders remain closed in Botswana (except for commercial trucks), the Kasane River border is now open. This river crossing allows guests of the Chobe Princess, Zambezi Queen, and Ichingo Lodge, access to these amazing Chobe River experiences. So one can easily fly into Kasane Airport, stay in one of the houseboats or at the lodge, and perhaps take a short flight into Victoria Falls, or vice-versa. Victoria Falls is offering amazing specials on accommodation (see our Victoria Falls Specials page). The long-awaited Kazungula Bridge reached completion and was officially opened on the 10th of May this year. The bridge allows access between Botswana's Kasane area and Zambia's Kazungula area, making it easier and quicker to travel between Livingstone and Kasane. There won't be any more long waits for the ferry to cross the Zambezi River at this point. For enquiries or assistance in planning your holiday at any of these destinations, please contact us.
