Open Bus TourTake a unique morning or afternoon tour of the Victoria Falls Town and get a special history lesson on the building of the spectacular Victoria Falls Bridge.
The Open Bus Tour is a one of a kind activity in Victoria Falls and is run daily by Shearwater Adventures. It takes place on a big red London style double-decker bus which has an open top deck. The tour takes about 2 hours (or longer if you have other bridge activities booked). Joseph, the tour guide, is a lively man who is knowledgeable about interesting out-of-the-box facts on the animals, the history of important trees and plants found in the area, and the Zambezi River which you will see along the way. The tour must be booked beforehand with a minimum of 2 passengers. There are two types of tours available in the morning and evening and they all start at the Shearwater offices on Parkway Drive. The first type of trip, which picks up at 8am, is the Greet the People Tour, which goes through Chinotimba Township and the marketplace. Here you will learn about the establishment and history about the area and the people who live there. You will get to meet some of the locals as well. This tour then goes on to the Zambezi Drive through a section of the Victoria Falls National Park where you will learn about The Big Tree (the biggest baobab tree in the country) and others in the area, bits about the birds and animals found within the park, and wonderful facts about the Zambezi River. You may also spot some animals in the park. On this tour, passengers are provided with refreshments, towels and umbrellas which may come in handy for upper deck passengers when passing through the spray of the Victoria Falls or when the sun gets too hot.
The second trip is the Historic Bridge Tour. This Open Bus Tour first takes you from town through to the Zambezi Drive and then on to the Zimbabwe border. Here, you will stop to get clearance for the Victoria Falls Bridge activities. You may need your passports so be sure to take them with you. On the other side of the bridge you will be treated with an eye-opening and humorous history lesson on the building of the Victoria Falls Bridge. After that, get ready to be strapped in the harnesses for the bridge canopy tour. If you have booked other bridge activities, you will have time to participate. If not, you can take a break and watch others do their thing while you relax and have a treat in The Bridge Cafe. The morning tour picks up at 10am and covers the bridge canopy walk. Refreshment, face towel and umbrella are provided for this tour. The evening tour picks up at 4pm and passengers are served snacks and Champaign while you watch the sun set on the bridge. Safety first! You must remain seated while the bus is mobile because you could get injured. You must not get off the bus while in the Victoria Falls National Park because there may be wild animals about. Be sure to have a good meal before getting onto the bus, especially if you are going to participate in adrenaline bridge activities. What to Bring
• Your passport, although you will not need a visa to cross into the
Zambian side of the bridge for the tour Unfortunately, no children less than 14 years old are allowed on the canopy walk under the bridge. Children under 16 who do take the canopy walk will pay full price for the tour. If excluding the walk under the bridge, kids pay half price. The best way to take the trip is on the upper level on the bus so that you have a wide and awesome view of your surroundings, a clean breath of fresh air, and plenty of sunshine!
