NEW BABY RHINO NAMED
by Shearwater Adventures
Recently, SHEARWATER ADVENTURES, and RANI AFRICA Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. We are therefore excited to let you know that the baby has been christened! Having asked all our agents and trading partners to come up with their suggestions, we are happy to announce that the winning name TATENDA was proposed by David Wood at Air Holidays. “Tatenda” means “we are thankful” in Shona. David suggested it would show gratitude for Shearwater and Rani Africa’s conservation work and to the Rhino parents for keeping the species going. We like that and we thank you too, David and all those who participated! Tatenda’s arrival marks another leap forward in Shearwater and Rani Africa’s conservation efforts, which for the past ten years have been concentrated on sustainable wildlife utilisation, together with breeding and research programmes of rare and endangered species, with the Black Rhino as its pioneer project. The VFPGR is now home to a “crash” of six Black Rhino headed by proud dad, Shungu, and is the only destination in the region offering a genuine Big Five safari experience. With less than 3,000 of these incredible animals left on earth and recent poaching incidences being at an all-time high, Shearwater Adventures and Rani Africa are justifiably proud of this achievement and of being closer to our dream of supplying Black Rhino from the breeding programme into other wild life areas. For a few weeks after Tatenda’s birth, mother Buster kept her calf carefully protected in thick bushes but both are now regularly spotted by visitors to the Reserve. The baby’s gender has now been confirmed so older siblings Lindani and Chippy have a brother ! If you would like an opportunity to see our noble Rhino family or learn more about our other conservation programmes, including the recently released Painted Dog pack, please don’t hesitate to contact SHEARWATER ADVENTURES so we can welcome you to our world….. With your continued valued support, we know we can take these projects further.
