Muchenje Safari LodgeMuchenje Safari Lodge has a great location high on an escarpment with fantastic views of the Chobe River and seasonal flood plainsIntroductionMuchenje Safari Lodge is located high on an escarpment with distant views over the Chobe River and a seasonal flood plain. At certain times of the year, the floodplain can be filled with thousands of zebras and other animals. Positioned on a private concession within the Chobe Forest Reserve, just a short drive from the Ngamo entrance gate and the less crowded western part of the Chobe National Park. The lodge's 10 thatched cottages and 1 family cottage are placed perfectly along the edge of the plateau overlooking the flood plain. Each with a private deck to enjoy the view of the river and the many species of wildlife that frequent the plains below. The uninterrupted views are also enjoyed from the central area where the lounge, dining area and swimming pool are located. Dining is a communal experience allowing guests time to get to know each other and share their safari experiences from the day. With no fences between the lodge concession and the Chobe National Park, the animals roam freely between the two – offering guests the unique opportunity of game viewing both on the concession and in the national park. Muchenje's guides are all from the Chobe region and are passionate about the park and their community. There is also a specialised bird guide available. Early morning game drives leave from Muchenje before sunrise and head into the Chobe National Park, this gives the guests a good chance of seeing big cats on the move before the temperatures rise. The full-day out is also very popular and encompasses a river cruise and game drive through the park along the Chobe River. Departing from the lodge after breakfast, driving through the park until late morning before boarding the river cruise on which lunch will be served. The cruise is unforgettable, with often sightings of large herds of elephants and buffalo on Sedudu Island. Returning to the lodge, stopping to enjoy the sunset and sundowners on the way home. The hands-on approach of management and friendly staff at Muchenje Safari Lodge ensure that an enjoyable and memorable stay is had by all. Our OpinionMuchenje Safari Lodge we think is a great choice of accommodation for a safari at a reasonable price in the Chobe Riverfront Region. It’s location on the western end of the park and its private concession well away from the bustle of Kasane – we believe offers a more intimate game experience. Although it is just outside the national park its does have quick and easy access to the park through the Ngamo gate entrance, which appeals to us. The rooms and the central area are comfortable and well-positioned to capture the magnificent views of the flood plain and wildlife below. Accommodation options on the western side are limited. Muchenje is our recommended lodge in the reasonably-priced category. It's also great for families, as children 8 years and older are welcome. Summary
