Livingstone Island Tour & Devil's Pool
View the Victoria Falls with a different dimension
Livingstone Island was opened in 1992 to provide exclusive and unique picnics on the edge of the Victoria Falls. Although the island is accessed from the Zambian side, tours to the island are suitable for guests on both the Zimbabwe and Zambia side of the Zambezi River.
Tongabezi (who run Tongabezi Lodge) are the operators of the island, although bookings can be done through other activity operators and agents.
The island is a 5- to 8-minute boat ride from the Livingstone Island launch
site and is located along the Zambezi River, touching the lip of the Victoria Falls, where the water thunders down the 103m (355 ft) drop. Access to this unique island is seasonal and depends entirely on the water level in the Zambezi River.

On a tour of the island, you will learn the history of the island, the formation of the Victoria Falls, while surrounded by breathtaking views of the landscape and Zambezi River, and the waterfalls pounding into the
gorge below. Your guide will take you to the edge of the island where David Livingstone stood
in awe of the massive chasm and the majesty of the falls for the first time, and named them Victoria Falls
- after Queen Victoria.
Tongabezi limit the daily total number of visitors to 120, with a maximum of 24 people for each Livingstone Island tour. This is to limit the human impact on the World Heritage Site. It is advisable that bookings for this trip are made in advance (send us a booking enquiry to book your trip).
