Lake Kariba MapFind accommodation, where to fly into, and more places of interest around Lake Kariba
Lake Kariba is situated in the north east section of Zimbabwe, on the border with Zambia along the Zambezi River. It is about 200kms downstream of the mighty Victoria Falls, halfway between the source of the Zambezi to it's mouth. From the map below, you can see the size of the lake in relation to the size of Zimbabwe itself.
The next map shows the extent of Lake Kariba, and the different safari areas that you will find in the area (read more about the safari areas on this page). If you click on the map, it will enlarge so that you can see more of the detail.
Below is our Google Map which goes into greater detail, showing you the different places to stay along the lake shore, and the airstrips which you can fly into for easy access to the lodges and camps. You will also see the harbours, where to get the Kariba Ferry, the town, and other places of interest. Being a terrain map, you can see the different altitudes of the areas that surround the lake. In the orange boundary is the Matusadona National Park.
The Kariba Ferry which traverses Lake Kariba from Kariba to Mlibizi and back, is an economical and relaxing way to get across the lake, even more so if you are combining your trip to Kariba with Victoria Falls and/or Hwange. The map below shows the route the ferry takes with the start and end point in each direction. More on the Kariba Ferry.
Combining Kariba/Matusadona with Mana Pools and Victoria Falls gives a fantastic experience of the different section of the Zambezi River, from the upper Zambezi (and perhaps Chobe), to the middle Zambezi and the lake, and the final section which is the Lower Zambezi in Mana Pools. Have a look at some Zimbabwe safari ideas taking you around different destinations in Zimbabwe.
