Insane

Why build a dam that will not reach any sort of generous capacity when we have the best thing in the world for generating power - at least 320 days of blazing sunshine. The obvious loss of the rafting industry and the loss of bird and fish resources is not worth what it can generate. Also as Kariba does - it will hold back the rich silts that provide nutrition to the rivers water below the dam. Would a massive solar farm or better farms not generate more power than this dam if done properly and I am sure cost the same to put in place. Even have the solar farm along some of the gorge areas that are inhospitable and now devoid of most wildlife due to poaching and habitat degradation by the local inhabitants. Seriously it would cost the same or possibly even less and not have the maintenance costs of a dam with cracking etc being real possibilities with concrete etc.
