IntroductionIt is one of the privately owned Victoria Falls lodges, situated within walking distance of the mighty Victoria Falls and the town centre. The Lodge offers upmarket accommodation in a gracious and secluded ambiance and the décor evokes a feeling of adventure and romance. On arrival in the vibrant reception area you are served with a long cold drink and made to feel welcome. The hotel grounds are secluded and well maintained and borders the Zambezi National Park and one can often see warthog and other wild animals grazing on the lawn. The hotel has a large terrace running along the front of it and the view from here, of the never ending spray from the Falls, is enchanting. The original swimming pool has a large wooden sun deck perfect to sit around and soak up a bit of the African sun. In 2019, they added poolside lounge, and also a plunge pool in a lovely setting on the terrace, with wooden deck and sun loungers. In late 2015, an entirely new section of the hotel was built to increase capacity. Ilala Lodge went from having 32 standard/classic and deluxe rooms to 56 rooms, and again in 2018 to 73 which now include regular suites and executive suites, still holding that personalised and intimate level of service and attention to detail. All the rooms are fitted with attractive railway (tie) sleeper furniture adding a magical touch of Africa. For those who really wish to spoil themselves in luxury with extra special amenities, The Strathearn suite, which opened in 2019, is the one to choose, and brings the total rooms to 74. It offers an abundance of space, and features en-suite bathroom with walk in shower, double vanity, indulgent oversized bathtub, Lounge area, Private balcony, and a large hot tub on the balcony. It also comes with an exclusive balcony dinner prepared by your personal chef, a 30-minute in-room couples massage, and a breakfast or lunch cruise aboard the Ra-Ikane. Can you say perfect honeymoon? A family or group of up to six can select the Strathearn Family suite, which is made up of the Strathearn suite, plus inter-leading Deluxe and Executive suites. This also includes the private dining experience per stay, plus either a breakfast or lunch cruise on the Ra-Ikane. Our OpinionIlala is the most intimate of the true hotels in Vic Falls conveniently located only a stones throw from the Falls themselves. It's very high standards make this hotel an obvious choice for guests wanting top quality luxury and service. It's Cassia restaurant offers fine dining that is amongst the best in Vic Falls. Besides the Strathearn suite, not that suited for families with young children, but apart from that we highly recommended Ilala Lodge. We would suggest that this hotel is best suited to the slightly more mature traveller, because of the quiet and peaceful ambiance. Summary
