Farmhouse Lodge MatoposAffordable, family-friendly lodge offering stunning views of the Matobo Hills, with rustic charm and comfortable roomsIntroductionFarmhouse Lodge is a charming and comfortable lodge located on the edge of the Matobo Hills National Park in Zimbabwe. It is an ideal place for visitors who want to explore the natural wonders of the park, including its stunning granite formations, ancient rock art, and diverse wildlife. The owner run lodge is located 48 kms from Bulawayo on the Matopos road, in the heart of the Matopos World Heritage site, making it a convenient base for exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also an hour's drive from Bulawayo Airport, making it easily accessible by air from Victoria Falls. The Farmhouse Lodge offers 12 Cape Dutch style cottages, lined along the edge of a majestic granite outcrop. Each of the cottages has a twin/double bedded bedroom, en-suite shower, toilet and wash-hand basin, open plan lounge with tea/coffee facilities and fridge. The lodge offers a variety of comfortable accommodation options to suit all budgets and needs. You can opt for accommodation only, or dinner, bed and breakfast while staying in the lodge. The lodge also has a campsite with basic facilities, including showers, toilets, and a shared kitchen. The best feature at the campsite is the lapa, which you can go up to the top of the tower for wonderful views of the Matopos - a perfect place for sundowners. Originally a farm homestead, the property was converted into a lodge in 1996. The original farm house is now the restaurant, bar and reception part of the lodge, and the cottages were built from scratch. Now, the place is known as the Farmhouse Lodge named after its origin. From the restaurant veranda, guests are welcome to manicured garden, and the rock swimming pool beyond. Also in the garden is the open campfire in the enclosed traditional boma. Meals are typically served in the restaurant, and can be catered to personal dietary requirements. On some days, and weather-permitting, there can be a braai dinner, with the food served under the African night sky. The Farmhouse Lodge is situated on Granite Ridge Wildlife Reserve, a private reserve bordering the Matobo Hills National Park. There is a full time, fully licensed professional guide on-site, who can take you on walking safaris and game drives, as well as the opportunity to track and view rhino on foot. Located on the reserve is a viewing platform in front of where lots of wild animals come to drink.
