Fantastic Birding Cruise - highlight of our trip

We just got back last nite from our trip to southern Africa. The guide DID show up on time at our lodge. The trip was stupendous – a highlight of our time in Zimbabwe!! I have not compiled our list there yet, but the experience of being on the Zambezi River, with mists rising early in the morning and having the river “to our selves” with the guide and boat captain, who was himself knowledgeable, while the the birds just kept on coming. Our most unexpected and marvelous experiences on birds was watching a family of Finfoots (a female and her older chicks) CROSSING THE CHANNEL in open water, passing just in front of the boat, from the mainland side to the island near us (brave little voyageurs indeed). We later saw a male Finfoot on the margin of the river playing “now you see me and now you don’t” among stems of water plants. But every species was special, and the setting was just wonderful.
