Can I get local banknotes in town

by Paul Gray
(Skegness, UK)

Hi

I visit in a few weeks and collect banknotes. When in Victoria Falls town, would there be anywhere I can purchase some of the old out of circulation (very large denomination) banknotes? How much would a 10 Trillion Dollars note cost me locally? Also, I understand that there is a new currency that was introduced earlier this year, is it easy to obtain a few good condition notes of the new currency for my collection as a tourist who will be mainly using US Dollars?

Thanks

Old bank notes

Hi Paul

You will be able to buy some old notes from the street vendors and in the curio markets. The larger denominations are quite hard to get though these days but if you ask the guys to source them they might be able to find them for you. Notes like the 100 Trillions they will be asking about US$200, you can try and negotiate that down. 10 trillions would be about $20 to $40.
There is also a small antiques shop in Elephants Walk shopping center by Brooks cafe and they used to sell some of the old notes in collectors form.

The new Zig Notes are also available and you could also try going into a bank and getting some with your USD but they wont give you very many.

I hope that helps
