Bumi Hills Safari LodgeBumi Hills luxury Safari Lodge sits high on a ridge with incredible expansive views across Lake Kariba and the wild shoreline below. It's the ultimate destination to unwind and relax...especially between visiting other Safari CampsIntroductionBumi Hills Safari Lodge is an iconic lodge synonymous with Lake Kariba. The lodge is set on top of a range of hills not far from the Matusadona National Park, with breathtaking and serene views across this enormous man made lake, the largest by volume in the world. Ten tastefully decorated luxury rooms are embedded into the hillside each one with expansive, uninterrupted views of the game rich shoreline below and the vastness of the lake beyond. Each room is equipped with mini bar, tea and coffee station, air-conditioning and a private viewing deck. As with all African Bush Camp properties the furniture and fittings are unique and beautiful. The en-suite bathroom has twin basins, a shower, a large free standing bathtub and a private toilet. There is also an outdoor shower which has to win an award, for the shower with the most outstanding view. One of the rooms has been converted to a private villa, great for families and small groups. It has a large comfortable lounge area and private viewing deck, where meals can be served. Two oversized en-suite bedrooms complete this very attractive accommodation option. A large sparkling infinity pool is central to the main entertainment area, which has a variety of options for dining and relaxing, all configured to capture the expansive views. An indoor and outdoor dining area, an entertainment room complete with a full size snooker table and an enormous lower deck with bar and fire pit, makes one spoilt for choice as to where to spend your time. To cap it off there is an exercise room with weights, treadmills, bikes and walkers. Last but certainly not least is the Spa, with two very attentive masseurs to help you completely unwind and relax. Activities at Bumi Hills are a mixture of scenic tours, game viewing, and cultural enlightenment. Game drives are conducted around the Bumi Hills private concession and speed boat excursions into the Matusadona National Park and up the Ume river and its tributaries are exceptional. Fishing is a standard Lake Kariba activity that most people try. Cultural tours to the nearby villages give guests inside into the history and lifestyle of the Tonga people, who have lived in the Zambezi region for thousands of years. Lunch or sundowners on a sandy beach are a special treat and add that extra special memory. Access to Bumi Hills is 98 percent by air charter, occasionally boat transfers from Kariba town or one of the other lake lodges is arranged. It is half way between Hwange National Park and Mana Pools so this charter route is well serviced daily. Being part of the African Bush Camps group, there are nice discount packages for extended stays at a combination of their camps. Contact us for details. Our OpinionBumi Hills is positioned in a stunning elevated location with unparallel views across the shoreline and the endless lake. You are just mesmerised by this view as it seeps into you and calms the soul. It is the ultimate destination to unwind and relax, enjoy the spa treatments and read books on your private deck or around the pool on comfy day beds, together with enjoying some game viewing activities. The boat cruises are incredibly scenic and the birdlife is out of this world and you will seem some game, but we do not recommend it as a stand alone safari product. Ideally it is combined in a package with another one or two Safari camps in either Hwange or Mana pools. It is remote, so fly-in is the best option which adds to the costs considerably and that's why it works so well when combined with other safari camps en-route. We absolutely recommend Bumi for those wanting to indulge in luxury and unwind, specifically between or at the end of a safari. The incredibly beautiful Lake Kariba is often overlooked by tourists but it shouldn't be as it has a real place in any itinerary because of its diversity. Birding and fishing are about as good as it gets but the game viewing is average.
