Photographic Boat Safari by African EyeEnjoy guided photographic safaris on the Zambezi River, either at sunrise or sunset
IntroductionIf you are a keen photographer then this has to be the ultimate photographic experience - Cruising in a specialised photographic boat with specialised photographic equipment on the iconic Zambezi River. The Zambezi River above Victoria Falls is a myriad of channels and islands. Apart from a couple of hotels on the banks of the Zimbabwean and Zambian mainland, it is pretty much pristine wilderness.
The scenery as one can imagine continually delights the eye. Ever-changing with the fluctuating light conditions, during early morning or late afternoon. The birdlife, which is often the most challenging to get good photographs of is prolific, colourful and non-stop.
As far as wild animals are concerned, this section of the river does not have the same concentration of animals as say Chobe National Park, but there is often plenty of wildlife to be seen. We did an afternoon cruise, to experience the product and were treated to an incredible display from a herd of elephants that lasted for over an hour.
The functionality of the specialised hull, chairs and camera mounts was truly a treat to experience. The photographs I managed to capture can be attributed to these and gives you a glimpse as to what an opportunity this is. If it’s not elephant then without question you will be getting up close and personal to hippos and crocodiles. It’s the Zambezi and there are endless critters to captivate you and keep that shutter button clicking.
A private photographic guide is on board at all times, who not only understands photography and the importance of getting into the right spot but will also be there to give you tips on how to take the perfect photograph. The ActivityThe activity begins with collection from the lodge or hotel you are staying at. The mini-bus will transfer you to the jetty-site which is just on the outskirts of town and about 5 km upstream of the Victoria Falls. Here you meet your guide and familiarise yourself the specialised equipment that you will be using. You can enjoy either a sunset or sunrise cruise or both. Each cruise last about 2 hours • Summer times as follows: 5h30 , 16h00 Light snacks and refreshments are provided. EquipmentThe special shallow hull of the aluminium boat enables it to access areas that are difficult for other boats to reach, therefore offering exclusive safari opportunities. It is fitted with 6 custom made seats that rotate 360-degrees, each with a unique camera mount that allows for uninhibited movement but continual rock steady support for your camera. Top-quality cameras and lenses both Nikon and Canon are supplied, but you can also use your equipment if you wish. You will leave with an SD card with all your photos on from the trip.
